Frequently Asked Questions

Can you help with planning conditions?

Yes. We can assist homeowners, developers, contractors, and landowners with tree and hedging planting requirements associated with planning permissions and landscaping conditions. We can advise on suitable species, planting densities, hedge layouts, and replacement planting to help meet local authority requirements while creating practical and attractive planting schemes.  Alternatively, we can supply the plants if you have specific requirements already in place.

Yes. Henderson Nurseries specialises in growing and supplying high-quality shrubs and perennials for commercial landscaping projects, garden designers, landscape contractors, developers, local authorities, and private estates. We can also supply plants for projects of various sizes, with healthy, well-established stock that is ready for successful planting.

Yes. Send us your plant list or planting schedule and we’ll provide a tailored quotation. Alongside our own high-quality shrubs and perennials, we can source additional plants to help fulfil your specification, making it easier to complete your project with one trusted supplier.

Do you supply mature trees?
Yes, we do. We can source a wide range of mature and semi-mature trees in various sizes and species to suit both residential and commercial projects. Whether you’re looking to create instant impact, add privacy, or complete a landscaping scheme, we can help you find the right tree. If you’re after something specific, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise on availability and the best options for your space.

The best hedge for privacy depends on your site conditions, desired appearance, and how quickly you want the hedge to establish. Popular choices include Laurel, Portuguese Laurel, Beech, Hornbeam, and mixed native hedging. We can recommend the most suitable species & sizes based on your location and requirements.

Yes! We supply a range of native species suitable for Scottish landscapes, including Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Hazel, Rowan, Birch, Scots Pine, and mixed native hedging. Native planting can provide excellent benefits for wildlife, biodiversity, shelter, and landscape enhancement.

The best option depends on your project, budget, and planting time frame. Bare root plants are a cost-effective choice for hedging, woodland planting, shelterbelts, and larger landscaping projects. Available during the dormant season (typically November to March), they’re easy to transport, simple to plant, and establish exceptionally well when planted correctly.

Rootballed plants are supplied with a ball of soil around their roots, making them ideal for larger, more mature trees and hedging where you want an instant impact, greater privacy, or a more established appearance. They are often the preferred choice for formal gardens, commercial landscaping projects, and premium planting schemes.

If you’re unsure which option is right for your project, we’re happy to help. We’ll recommend the most suitable plants based on your site, planting objectives, budget, and timescale, ensuring you get the best possible results and long-term success from your planting.

No problem! We’re here to help you choose the perfect hedge for your garden or project. Whether you’re looking for year-round privacy, a formal, low-maintenance hedge, something fast-growing, or a hedge that’s great for wildlife, we’ll recommend the best option based on your needs, soil, and location.

Simply get in touch with us, and we’ll talk you through the different varieties, sizes, and planting options to help you find the ideal hedge. If you’d like, we can even supply and plant it for you.

Do you offer planting services?

The ideal planting season for bare root trees and hedging is generally between November and March while plants are dormant. Container-grown and some rootballed plants can be planted throughout much of the year, provided they are watered and maintained correctly. We can advise on the best planting window for your chosen species.
